ABOUT

I am an Indian filmmaker by profession. As a person, I have chosen emotion over logic. Wisdom over intelligence. It saves me the pressures to know too much. Show off too much. Be too much, too many.

Things that ‘Time’ has washed up my shore, find some sort of recycling through the stories I tell. In the process, I churn my own soul. Helps me seep deeper into myself through newer cracks. Cracks are good. Cracks let the lights in, someone has said. I have too many. Makes me human, if not good.

I studied Engineering. Then I did my MBA. Worked for a few years. All through my childhood I learned and sang Hindustani Classical. Then quit everything and began writing. Soon taught myself directing films. Somewhere along the way, I have developed a fascination for photography and watercolor painting. I love taking pictures and painting. I love going on long drives.

I publish my literary work under the name of 'Shom' which happens to be my pet name.

I love Mumbai, the city I was born. I love Bengal where I am supposed to be from. I love the Himachal mountains where I am often found.

I am in constant awe of people. Their abilities to create. The Masters hiding in the most inane, seemingly insignificant stroke of human expression. In nature's unfolding. I am in awe of the laws that keep us alive, that hold us to the ground and yet send us hurtling into space. I am in awe of the idea that there is a higher truth yet to be realised.

In this ever-changing kaleidoscope of awareness, I am, both a coloured piece of glass and the observer.  When the glass me flips, I become a new design. And then the observer me discovers a new meaning of life.

I have never met her in person, but I consider Ma Anandmayee as my spiritual guru. She says when the seer, the seen and the act of seeing becomes one, 'Brahman' - the Truth is realised.
